OTHER COMMITTEES, BOARDS, COUNCILS, ETC.

 

 

9.1        Committees are appointed to deal with specified items of business requiring expert or detailed consideration. There are two types of Committees-Official Committees i.e. those appointed by Government and Parliamentary Committees i.e. those appointed by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha or by the Presiding Officers of the two Houses of Parliament. Government Committees are composed of experts officials and non-officials including sometimes, Members of Parliament also.

 

Nomination of Members of Parliament on Committees, Councils, Boards, Commissions etc. set up by the Government

 

9.2        Members of Parliament are nominated by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs on the various Committees, Councils, Boards, Commissions etc. set up by the Government of India in the various Ministries. During the period under report, 203 Members of Parliament ( 132 of Lok Sabha and 71 of Rajya Sabha) were nominated on various Govt. Bodies  as indicated in Appendix -XV.

 

Nomination of Members of Parliament on Hindi Salahkar Samitis

 

9.3        Members of Parliament are associated with the Hindi Salahkar Samitis constituted by each Ministry/Department to advise them on matters relating to the progressive use of Hindi in official work and allied issues falling within the framework of Official Language Policy laid down by the Government of India. The term of these Salahkar Samitis is normally three years. Four Members of Parliament (two from Lok Sabha and two from Rajya Sabha) are nominated on each of these Samitis by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs.  During the period under report, 12 Members of Parliament ( 5 of Lok Sabha and 7 of Rajya Sabha) were nominated on various Hindi Salahkar Samitis as indicated in Appendix - XVI.

 

Recommendations of General Application by Parliamentary Committees

 

9.4        Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs is concerned with processing of action by Ministries on the recommendations of general application made by Parliamentary Committees.

 

9.5        Action on the recommendations of general nature contained in the following reports was initiated by the Ministry:-

 

(i)                  Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Reports of the Committee on Petitions (Lok Sabha).

 

(ii)                116th Report of the Committee on Petitions (Rajya Sabha).

 

(iii)               Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eighth  Reports of the Committee on Papers Laid on the Table of Lok Sabha.

 

(iv)              Seventy-sixth, Seventy-seventh and Seventy-eighth Reports of the Committee on Papers Laid on the Table of Rajya Sabha.

 

9.6        The work relating to Committee on Government Assurances has been described in Chapter VI.
