HIGHLIGHTS

Legislative:
* During the period from 1.1.2001 to 31.12.2001, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha held 81 sittings each spread over three session.
* The General Budget for 2001-2002 was presented on 28th February, 2001 Railway Budget for 2001-2002 on 26th February, 2001 and Manipur Budget 2001-2002 on 5th December, 2001.
* Twelve Ordinances were promulgated
* Sixty one Bills were passed by both Houses of Parliament.
Consultative Committees:
* Consultative Committees of Members of Parliament attached to the various Ministries/Departments held 124 meetings.
Nomination of Members of Parliament on Various Government Bodies:
* The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs nominated 137 Members of Lok Sabha and 78 Members of Rajya Sabha on 91 Government Bodies, Councils, Boards etc. including 6 Hindi Salahkar Samitis.
NIRD Workshop:
* A workshop for MPs was arranged at Hyderabad
from 2nd to 4th June, 2001 in coordination with the National Institute of Rural
Development. The workshop was attended by 32 Members of Parliament.
Youth Parliament Competitions:
*The Ministry
conducts Youth Parliament Competitions for the benefit of the student
community. The 36th Youth Parliament Competition for Senior
Secondary Schools under the Government of Delhi and N.D.M.C. and the 14th
National Youth Parliament Competition for Kendriya Vidyalayas were held during
the year. 38 schools of Delhi and
88 Kendriya Vidyalayas participated in these competitions.
*The Fifth
National Youth Parliament Competition for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and the
Fifth National Youth Parliament Competition for Universities/Colleges are in
progress and are likely to be completed soon.
*Orientation
Courses for these competitions were held at Delhi for Delhi and NDMC Schools,
at Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Shillong (Meghalaya) and Chennai (Tamil Nadu) for
Kendriya Vidyalayas, at Udaipur (Rajasthan) and Kulamavu, Idukki (Kerala) for
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and at Madurai (Tamil Nadu) for
Universities/Colleges.
*Sub Committee
“A” of the Monitoring Group of All India Whips Conference visited Lucknow
(Uttar Pradesh), Delhi and Jaipur (Rajasthan) in June, 2001 to study and assess
the stage of implementation of the recommendations of 12th All India
Whips Conference.
Matters
under rule 377/Special Mentions under Rule 180A-E:
*During the
period from 1.1.2001 to 31.12.2001,
674 matters under Rule 377 were raised in the Lok Sabha and 321 Special
Mentions under Rule 180A-E were raised in the Rajya Sabha. Out of these, 244 matters in the Lok Sabha and 43 Special Mentions in the
Rajya Sabha have already been replied to by the Ministries/Departments
concerned.
Training
Course:
*The Ministry conducted two orientation
Courses in Parliamentary Procedures and Practices – one for the Officers of the
Central Government in which 23 Officers participated and second for the
Officers of the State Governments
in which 9 Officers participated.
Government
Assurances Implemented:
*During the
period from 1956 to 2001, 74123 assurances were given by the Ministers in Lok
Sabha and 43646 assurances in Rajya Sabha. This includes 1577 assurances recorded in Lok Sabha and 1059 assurances in Rajya Sabha during the year 2001. Out of these 72308 assurances (97.55%) pertaining to the Lok
Sabha and 42508 (97.39%) assurances pertaining to the Rajya Sabha have already
been fulfilled by the Government.
Part
Implementation Reports:
*In addition
to the above, part implementation reports relating to 26 assurances in the Lok
Sabha and 9 assurances in the Rajya Sabha
were also laid during the period under report.
Nomination
of Members of Parliament on various delegations going abroad:
*Minister of
Parliamentary Affairs nominated/approved nominations of 9 Members of Parliament
on various government delegations visited abroad.
Exchange
of Government Sponsored Delegation of Members of Parliament:
*The Ministry
hosted two Government Sponsored
Delegation of Members of Parliament from Republic of Hungary (25-30 April,
2001) and from Romania (26-30 November, 2001).
*The Ministry
of Parliamentary Affairs sent a 17 member Goodwill Delegation to Australia, New
Zealand and Singapore during 18-28 May, 2001.
Meeting
with Leaders of various political parties in Parliament:
*The Ministry
organised 12 meetings with leaders of various political parties in Parliament to discuss various national
issues.
